Environmental protection requirements for garages
When you decide to start your own business, the young entrepreneur's first thought is, where to start now? No matter what business you plan to do, the first thing you need to do is figure out what permits your planned business needs. You will then assess whether you will be able to meet all the requirements for those permits and whether your business premises meet all the requirements.
This also applies to those who want to start a car service business. Here, perhaps the most important and first job is to assess whether the facilities of your planned garage meet all environmental requirements. Because if you first set up the premises and build all the necessary garage equipment and only then start negotiating all the permits, you could suffer very badly financially.
So that this does not happen to you, we will write the basic environmental requirements for services:
- Maintenance and repair of vehicles must be carried out in non-residential buildings: service buildings (garages only), garages, manufacturing and industrial buildings (factories, workshops only).
Requirements for the installation of service premises:
- the floor must be covered with a liquid-tight coating that is resistant to the destructive effects of petrol and other liquids;
- if a floor drain system is installed, it must not be connected to any drain (except for the premises for washing vehicle bodies);
- all spilled hazardous liquids must be collected (sorbed, cleaned, etc.) and treated as hazardous waste;
- measures must be taken to collect and / or neutralize spills (oil products, battery electrolyte, etc.) (absorbents).
Requirements for waste management:
- hazardous waste must be sorted by type and temporarily stored in airtight, container-resistant containers or packaging which must be labeled;
- The operator must keep records of the generation of waste and provide annual reports on the generation of waste;
- When submitting the annual waste generation accounting report for the first time, the operator must submit to the Regional Environmental Protection Department of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania a declaration of the operator performing maintenance and repair of vehicles;
- An operator who generates waste batteries and accumulators must have special containers for batteries and accumulators;
- The operator must accept all non-hazardous and hazardous waste generated during the maintenance and repair of vehicles;
- If reusable vehicle parts are transferred to the vehicle owner or user, the Vehicle Parts Transfer and Acceptance Act must be completed.
These are the essential requirements for garages.
